Finding and previewing
PDFs, instructions and videos
Read PDF and text instructions in your browser, search the words inside them, and see video poster frames for tutorials stored with your designs.
Updated
CraftKeep launches soon. This guide describes how it works at launch.
Most designs come with more than the design file. There are PDF instructions, color charts, assembly guides, print notes and tutorial videos. In CraftKeep these live in the same design package as the design itself, so the instructions are always right next to the files they describe.
Reading PDFs and text files
Open a PDF or text file in a design package and you can read it in your browser. There is no need to download it first or open another app. This works on a computer, tablet or phone.
Instructions in PDF and plain text are useful for every craft, whether that is an embroidery color chart, layering steps for a vinyl decal, an assembly guide for a laser project or print settings for a 3D model.
Searching inside instructions
CraftKeep reads the text inside eligible PDF and text files and adds it to search. That means you can find a design by a phrase you remember from its instructions, even if that phrase appears nowhere in the design name or filename.
When a result matches because of words inside a document, the result tells you so and points to the document that matched. See Searching your library.
Design names, makers and series still rank ahead of words found inside documents, so a design called "Winter Fox" comes before a design whose instructions only mention a fox in passing.
Which PDFs are searchable
Text search works for PDFs that contain real text. Some PDFs are only pictures of pages, such as scanned patterns, and some are password protected. Those files are still stored, organized and available to download, and you can find them by their design, maker, series and filename.
Videos
Many makers include a tutorial or stitch-out video with their designs. CraftKeep stores video files such as MP4 alongside the rest of the design package.
At launch, each video shows a poster frame, a still picture from the video, together with basic details. You can see what a video is about without downloading the whole package, and you can download the video whenever you want to watch it.
In-browser playback is a later addition, so you will be able to watch tutorials right inside CraftKeep.
Safe by design
PDFs can contain active content such as scripts. CraftKeep never runs active content from your files; documents are shown to you safely and your original stays exactly as uploaded. See Previews and what they show.
Storage
PDFs and videos are stored like any other file and count toward your plan's storage. Video files can be large, so if you keep a big tutorial collection, the pricing page shows the storage on each plan.
