Sharing
Sharing and guilds
Your CraftKeep library is private by default. Learn how sharing works, what guilds will add for clubs and groups, and how to respect designers' licenses.
Updated
CraftKeep launches soon. This guide describes how it works at launch.
CraftKeep starts from a simple rule: your library is yours. Nothing you upload is visible to anyone else unless you decide to share it.
Private by default
Every file and design package you upload is private. It does not appear to people who are not signed in, it does not appear to other CraftKeep members, and it never shows up in anyone else's search results.
This privacy covers everything connected to your designs, including previews, search results, file counts and downloads.
Sharing is always your choice
Sharing only happens when you choose it. Each design package has a Share action, and the Shared area of your library is where sharing comes together in one place.
When you share, CraftKeep keeps it simple and careful:
- View-only by default: shared items start as view-only.
- Clear scope: you can see exactly what you are sharing before you share it.
- A reminder about licenses: CraftKeep reminds you to check the designer's terms before sharing.
Respecting designers' licenses
Many of the designs in a crafter's library are paid designs, and most designers set rules about how their files may be shared. Common examples include personal use only, no redistribution of the files, or sharing allowed only within a small group.
Before you share a design, check its license. A design package can hold the license and source details for each design, which makes it easier to remember what each designer allows. Being in the same club or guild does not give anyone the right to a designer's paid files.
Guilds: shared libraries for clubs and groups
Guilds are a later release. They are designed for embroidery guilds, sewing and quilting clubs, maker spaces, cutting and laser groups, 3D printing clubs and other groups who want a shared library of designs they are allowed to share.
A guild will have its own shared library, separate from each member's private library. Members will see only what the guild has chosen to share, and nothing from any member's private library.
Guild roles
Each member of a guild will have a role that decides what they can do in the guild's shared library. The planned roles are:
- Owner
- Admin
- Contributor
- Member
- Viewer
Roles let a guild decide who manages the guild, who adds designs and who browses and uses them. Each role only reaches the guild's shared library, never anyone's private library.
Guild members can be on any CraftKeep plan, including Free.
Guild pricing
Guild pricing is custom and quoted for each group. To talk about a guild for your club, contact sales through the contact page. You can also read more on the guilds page.
Changing your mind
Sharing can be removed. When access to a shared design is withdrawn, the people it was shared with can no longer open it.
