CraftKeep

Exporting

Downloading and exporting to USB

Download design files in one click, or use the CraftKeep desktop app to export the right formats straight to a USB drive for your machine.

Updated

CraftKeep launches soon. This guide describes how it works at launch.

Your designs live safely in the cloud, and getting them to your machine should be quick. CraftKeep offers two ways: a simple download, and a guided export to a USB drive from the CraftKeep desktop app.

Download in one click

Every design package has a Download action. It gets the file or files you most likely need, without making you dig through every format and size. You can also open the package and download any single file, such as just the SVG for your cutter or just the STL for your printer.

Download works in any web browser on a computer, tablet or phone.

On a phone or tablet

In a phone or tablet browser, files arrive as normal downloads on your device. Writing directly to a USB drive is a job for the desktop app on Windows or macOS.

Export to USB with the desktop app

The CraftKeep desktop app for Windows and macOS is planned for launch. Its Export to USB option walks you through sending files straight to a USB drive or other removable drive for your embroidery machine, cutter, laser or 3D printer.

You can export a single design, several designs, a collection or a set of search results.

Choose the right formats with machine profiles

A machine profile remembers which file formats your machine uses. Pick your profile and CraftKeep exports only the matching formats. For example, a profile for a machine that reads PES exports the PES files and leaves out DST and JEF.

You can also:

  • choose one variation, such as the 5x7 size, and leave the others out
  • include shared files, such as PDF instructions or pictures, if you want them on the drive too
  • pick all files in a package, or choose file types yourself

Your profile choice is remembered for next time, and you can change it whenever you like.

Choose how folders are laid out

Folder style What you get on the drive
Maker / series / design Folders that mirror your CraftKeep library
Flat All files together in one place, ready for machines that prefer simple layouts
Original The folder layout the files had when you uploaded them

Choose how files are named

You can export with the original filenames from the maker, or with the standardized names CraftKeep adds. Either way, CraftKeep makes sure two files never end up with the same name in the same folder. See Uploading and ZIP imports for how standardized names work.

Checks that protect your drive and your files

Before and during an export, the desktop app:

  • checks there is enough free space on the drive
  • checks for drive limits, such as file name length and very large files
  • avoids name clashes between files
  • copies files carefully and verifies each copy once it is written
  • tells you clearly if anything did not copy, so you can try again

CraftKeep never formats your drive. If a drive fills up or is removed partway through, you get a clear message and can retry. Your designs in the cloud are never affected by anything that happens to the drive.

Your cloud library stays the master copy

Downloads and exports are copies. The originals, their history and your organization stay in your CraftKeep library, so you can export the same designs again at any time.
