Getting started with CraftKeep

What CraftKeep is, how it organizes your designs by maker, series and design package, and the five everyday actions you will use most.

Updated

CraftKeep launches soon. This guide describes how it works at launch.

CraftKeep is a cloud library for the designs you collect and make. Embroidery files, SVG and graphics, vinyl and laser cut files, 3D printing models, PDF instructions and tutorial videos all live in one private place, organized the way crafters actually think about them.

How your library is organized

Most design collections already follow a natural pattern: a designer or shop, a set or collection from that designer, and the individual designs in that set. CraftKeep keeps that shape:

  • Maker: the designer, shop or studio a design came from.
  • Series: a collection, bundle or project from that maker.
  • Design package: one design, with everything that belongs to it.
  • Files: the individual files inside a design package, such as machine formats, size variations, instructions, artwork and videos.

A single design package might hold a PES and a DST file for your embroidery machine, an SVG for your cutter, a PDF of instructions and an MP4 tutorial. You see it as one design, and every file inside stays individually available.

You do not need to set any of this up before you start. When you upload, CraftKeep suggests the maker, series and design grouping for you. Read more in Makers and series and Design packages and variations.

The five everyday actions

CraftKeep is built around five actions that are always easy to find:

  1. Upload: add files, folders or a maker's ZIP by button or by drag-and-drop. See Uploading and ZIP imports.
  2. Search: find a design by maker, series, design name, theme or even an old filename. See Searching your library.
  3. Preview: open a design to see a picture of it without downloading anything. See Previews and their limits.
  4. Download or Export: download the files you need, or use the CraftKeep desktop app to send them straight to a USB drive for your machine. See USB and machine export.
  5. Share: everything is private by default, and sharing is always your choice. See Sharing and guilds.

Finding your way around

The main areas of CraftKeep are:

  • Home: your starting point.
  • My Library: all your makers, series and design packages.
  • Recent: designs you have opened or added lately.
  • Favorites: designs you have marked to keep close at hand.
  • Shared: the place to find sharing in one view.
  • Trash: deleted items you can still restore.

Search and Upload are always within reach, and the Preview/Details panel shows a design's files, variations, notes and version history.

Works where you work

CraftKeep runs in your web browser on a computer, tablet or phone, so there is nothing to install to browse, search, preview and download. The CraftKeep desktop app for Windows and macOS is planned for launch and adds direct export to USB drives.
